Rome Day 5

It's been another good day in Rome, but time is passing really fast!  I woke up today with my cough still there.  I seem to be coughing more and have had a bad sore throat off and on all day.  It's a good excuse to get gelato though!  So, while I may be needing to move a little slow for my lungs, we are still able to get around and enjoy the sights.

 
Early morning stops:

Today we first went to the Capitoline Museum.  This is a really neat sight, that we have seen from various locations in Rome, but today we got to go into the building itself and we were able to go on top of the building too!  Capitoline hill is where the museum is located and in Ancient Rome it was actually a religious site.  It was a tale to the Gods Jupiter, Juno, and Minerva.  In the 16th century Michelangelo helped transform the square from its pagan roots into its more current papal state.  I'll add pictures of the exhibits at home, but there were statues, paintings, and all sorts of things to see.  One disappointment was that one of the things Anthony was Hoping to see, one of their main statues, was gone.  It is currently being borrowed in Washington DC.  After visiting the entire museum, all the plus stories, we went around to a church that is on the hill.  There are many steps to get to the top, but it is worth the walk!  It was really pretty inside. We needed to go up anyway so that we could get to the roof of the Victor Emmanuel Monument.  The view was pretty nice from the first level, but the wee went up an elevator to the very top roof.  It was a little scary as it was a glass elevator, but it was an awesome view!  Hard to tell which was better, this or the view from St. Peters.  In this roof, we did have telescopes to look through, so we zoomed in on some buildings.  We could also see a lot of Ancient Rome from up high.

By the time we finish everything, it was already two PM so we actually hit up a Subway for lunch that was right by our next stop. Trajan's market.  We weren't planning on doing American food, but it was quick, convenient, and cheap.  Trajan's Market was my favorite sport today.  It was really neat to walk through the old marketplace buildings and imagine it filled with people so long ago.  So much of the building is still there, that you can visualize everything a lot more.  It was also interesting to read and see pictures of how the building was used in ancient times, then in medieval times,and then    re-eexcavated to today.  We have a lot of pictures to add of that too.

After Trajan's market we came home for what's becoming our normal nap time since dinner is so late. We even checked out a super mercado on the way hope and bought me some halls cough drops for me throat.  

This evening we had our second fancy dinner.  Tonight we had salmon, which was actually served raw.  I wasn't expecting that, but it was the best sushi/raw salmon I've had!  We decided to do the primo and second courses this time and to skip dessert.  We tried a ricotta spinach ravioli and a macaroni dish as our Pasta course.  The pasta is way different than back home.  It was two large raviolies, so one each, and about 8 super large noodle kinda like macaroni at home in a purple sauce.  The macaroni was actually the best!  For the meat course, Anthony had lamb and I had chicken.  W were offered limoncello after dinner, which is my favorite!!!! Best alcohol EVER!  Never leave me alone with a full bottle!  So good.

Anyway, dinner took over two hours and we need to be be up early tomorrow, as in six and a half hours, so good night from Rome!
